Hi, I’m Margaret nicholson.

Currently based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Margaret Nicholson is a vocalist, pianist,

songwriter, and arranger known for a rich, resonant tone that captivates audiences across genres.

Born and raised in Denton, TX, Margaret has been singing for as long as she can remember. With

a passion for storytelling and sharing the joy of music, she brings a fresh, creative spin to jazz,

pop, and contemporary genres. Whether interpreting timeless standards or performing original

works, her music reveals a deep emotional honesty and an unforgettable voice.

Currently pursuing a degree in Jazz Voice at the University of North Texas, Margaret

studies under Rosana Eckert and Jennifer Barnes. Margaret has served as the vocalist for the

UNT Latin Jazz Lab Band, 5 O’Clock Lab Band, and Commercial Music Lab Band. Margaret

has been heavily involved with the Latin Jazz program since her time at UNT. In addition to

being the vocalist for the Latin Jazz Band, she has also participated in the Brazilian and

Afro-Cuban percussion ensembles. She is continuing her third year in the award winning vocal

ensemble, the UNT Jazz Singers, where she’s been featured as a soloist and participated as a

dedicated ensemble member. With this group, Margaret has won several Downbeat awards,

toured in the Seattle area, and performed at the 2025 JEN conference. She can be heard most

recently on the newly released album “Too Darn Hot” by the UNT Jazz Singers on all platforms.

Margaret has classical and contemporary training in voice and piano as well as extensive

performance experience in jazz, pop, contemporary, and choral music. She can be seen

performing around DFW in solo shows, singing and playing piano, duo shows with various

instruments, and full band performances. She’s had the privilege to work with esteemed artists

Nicole Zuritis, Dawn Clement, Alyssa Algood, and Jeff Coffin.

In addition to performing, Margaret has a passion for teaching and has students ranging

from 3 to 50 years old in her studio. She is well-versed in teaching piano, classical and jazz

voice, and early childhood music. Margaret feels that paying forward the guidance and teaching

she’s received is one of the most special things she’s able to do.

With a beginning in classical music, Margaret has used her foremost training to perform

with and lead several church choirs in Dallas-Fort Worth. Margaret serves as a soloist and choir

director for regular weekend services, performs at weddings and funerals, and serves as a music

minister for a teen choir.

In addition to majoring in Vocal Jazz, Margaret is also minoring in Commercial Music to

expand her knowledge of the music field. Margaret most recently started a vocal trio project with

fellow vocalists Georgia Barge and Hannah Goodwin, performing their arrangements and

original music. This trio, called Iris, can be seen at their upcoming gigs around venues in DFW. Margaret

can also be seen every Thursday at her residency at Sova hotel in Dallas from

5-7pm and frequently playing piano bar music at Mercury Chophouse in Arlington, TX.
